About Boxelder Bugs
As late fall arrives in Orlando and Central Florida Boxelder bugs become a major urban nuisance in local neighborhoods as they congregate on exterior walls of Florida homes by the thousands. These pests primarily crawl into homes and businesses from the ground level but may often fly vents and other entry points on the upper levels of houses and buildings. They often gain entry into homes and buildings by gaining entry in gaps in soffits and vents, chimneys, pipe casings where electrical wires enter buildings, underneath siding and exterior trim, around window and doors. The often congregate on the warm South or South West sides of structures. Boxelder bugs remain pretty active year around in Florida and do not hibernate here as they do in colder areas of the country.
