Ant and Fire Ant Control in Orlando, Florida

Ant control in Central Florida is a species problem before it is a product problem. Get the species wrong and the treatment can make it worse, because several of the ants common in Orlando split their colonies when they are disturbed by a repellent spray.

The ants we actually get called about

• Red imported fire ants. Mounds in the lawn, especially after rain, and a sting nobody forgets. Yard-wide treatment matters more than treating individual mounds, because a disturbed mound simply relocates.
• Ghost ants. Tiny, with a dark head and pale, almost translucent legs and abdomen. The classic Florida kitchen and bathroom ant, trailing along counters, sinks and window frames.
• White-footed ants. Enormous colonies, often nesting in mulch, palm boots and wall voids, and notorious for being unimpressed by contact sprays. These need baiting and patience.
• Big-headed ants. The ones that push little piles of sand out along driveway cracks, patio pavers and sidewalk seams, so people assume they have termites.
• Caribbean and tawny crazy ants. Erratic, fast, and in huge numbers. They short out irrigation controllers, pool equipment and AC units.
• Pharaoh ants. Small and yellowish, mostly an indoor problem, and the textbook example of an ant that buds into multiple colonies if you spray it.
