Florida never really gets cold enough to break a flea cycle, so fleas here are a twelve-month problem rather than a summer one. Warm, humid conditions let eggs, larvae and pupae develop continuously, indoors and out, and that is why a treatment that works in a cooler climate often fails in Orlando.
Why the first treatment never finishes the job
Adult fleas on your pet are a small fraction of what is in the house. The rest is eggs, larvae and pupae in carpet fibres, along baseboards, in the pet’s bedding, under furniture cushions and in the sandy shaded soil where the dog lies outside. The pupal stage is the problem: pupae are protected inside a sticky cocoon that ordinary treatments do not penetrate, and they can sit dormant for weeks and hatch when they detect vibration, warmth and carbon dioxide, which is to say when someone walks past.
That is why fleas seem to come back a week or two after a treatment. They did not come back. They hatched. It is also why every flea job we do includes follow-up, and why vacuuming daily during treatment genuinely matters: the vibration triggers hatching so the emerging adults meet treated surfaces.

What we treat
Indoors: carpets, rugs, along and under baseboards, upholstered furniture, pet resting areas and bedding, and closets. Outdoors, which people skip and should not: the shaded sandy areas along the foundation, under decks and porches, the crawl space if there is one, the dog run, and anywhere the pet lies during the day. Full sun on open lawn is not where fleas live, so blanket-spraying the whole yard is money wasted.
Your part
Your vet handles the pet, and the treatment has to be current on every animal in the house or the cycle restarts from the source. Wash the bedding hot. Vacuum every day for two weeks and empty the canister outside. Clear the floor before we come so we can reach the edges of the rooms.
The wildlife angle
In Central Florida a flea problem in a house with no pets usually means an animal. Opossums, raccoons, feral cats and rodents under a porch, in a crawl space or in the attic bring fleas with them, and treating the house without removing the source is pointless. If we find that, we will tell you.
