Rodent Control in Orlando: Roof Rats and Mice

Mouse and rat control in Orlando, Florida

In Central Florida the rodent in your attic is almost always a roof rat. They are excellent climbers, they travel along power lines, fence tops and overhanging branches, and they come in high rather than low: gable vents, ridge and soffit gaps, the space where a barrel tile roof meets the fascia, plumbing stacks, and any spot where a previous roof job left a gap you cannot see from the ground.

House mice turn up too, usually in garages, kitchens and utility rooms, and Norway rats show up around dumpsters, sewers and older commercial buildings. Telling them apart matters, because the trapping and the exclusion work are different for each.

Signs it is roof rats

Scratching and running overhead at night, especially just after dark. Droppings in the attic insulation or on the top plate. Chewed AC line insulation. Greasy rub marks along a rafter or a soffit edge. Palm fronds or fruit trees with gnawed fruit. If you hear it in the ceiling rather than the wall, that is your answer.

Trapping alone does not fix it

The only permanent fix for rodents is closing the way in. We inspect the roof line, soffits, vents, plumbing penetrations, garage door corners and the AC chase, seal what we find with material rats cannot chew through, then trap the population that is already inside and keep checking until the traps stop producing.

Bait alone is the wrong first move in an attic. An animal that dies inside a wall on a Florida summer day becomes a smell and a fly problem you will call us about next.

The part that is on you

Cut tree limbs and palm fronds back off the roof, at least six feet where you can. Keep fruit picked up. Get the bird feeder away from the house. Clear the gutters. Rats in Orlando are usually getting in because something is touching the roof.

Afterwards

We can handle the cleanup: contaminated insulation, droppings and sanitising, and if the damage is bad enough, referral for insulation replacement. Rodents leave scent trails that draw the next ones in, so cleaning matters more than people expect.

Satisfaction Guaranteed

We seal first and trap second, because a rodent job that does not include exclusion is a subscription, not a solution.
